SIGNED COPIES

One of the most popular sections in the shop is undoubtedly our ever-changing selection of signed books.

Two tables towards the rear of the shop constantly offer a wide range of authors and subjects, although we must emphasise that some of these can be in very limited quantities and once initial stocks have been exhausted, it is not always possible to obtain more.

These signed books have either been signed directly onto the page by the respective authors or have signed bookplates which have then been inserted into the books themselves.

LOCAL AUTHORS

Caroline England, Cath Staincliffe, Ian McGuire, historian Tessa Boase, artist Len Grant, journalist Andy Spinoza, Dr. Tony Redmond and former Manchester City footballers Peter Barnes and Nedum Onuoha are among the local authors who have visited the shop previously to promote their latest works.

POLITICS AND HISTORY

New books by authors such as Gordon Brown, Max Hastings, Dame Joan Bakewell, Matt Hancock, Ben MacIntyre, Gyles Brandreth, Prof. Alice Roberts, Frank Field, Ed Balls, Jess Phillips, Joanna Lumley, Lucy Worsley, Andrew Marr and Alan Johnson have also proved popular in recent times.

SPORTS

Signed sporting titles are always in demand, not least as gift ideas, and we have been fortunate in the past to have obtained signed books by (from Tennis) Sue Barker and John Lloyd; (from Cricket) Jimmy Anderson, Michael Holding, Henry Blofeld, Ben Stokes and Wasim Akram; (from Football) Micah Richards, Martin O’Neill, Sammy McIlroy and Patrice Evra as well as Boxing’s Tony Bellew and promoter Barry Hearn.

ENTERTAINMENT

As with the sporting titles above, books from across the showbiz world also prove very popular with our customers. Normally published in the autumn each year, from Music we have been able to offer new books signed by Gary Barlow, P.P. Arnold, Dave Grohl, and Mark ‘Bez’ Berry; from Film and Television; Dame Joan Collins, Hugh Bonneville, James May, Richard E. Grant, ‘Somebody Feed’ Phil Rosenthal, Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, ‘Strictly’s’ Motsi Mabuse, David Walliams, Ben Miller, Michael Ball and Lenny Henry.

FICTION

New hardback novels by Lee Child, Jeffrey Deaver, Bob Mortimer, Richard Osman, Sally Rooney, Marian Keyes and Booker Prize winning author Douglas Stuart not only provide great reads but can, especially if it’s a signed first edition, become investments for the future.

OTHER SUBJECTS

In addition to the subjects shown, from time to time signed books from Sir David Attenborough, The Hairy Bikers, Prue Leith, Melvyn Bragg, Chris Packham, Sir Michael Parkinson, Monty Don and astronomer Brian Cox have also been available.

NEW FOR 2023

The signed copies area for us is one of constant change with new additions appearing at very short notice and with little advance warning. Having said that though we do already have prior knowledge that signed books by Richard Osman, Tom Hanks, Ray Mears, Professor Alice Roberts, Sir Patrick Stewart, John Nichol, Kevin Sinfield, Gordon Brown, Bob Mortimer, David Walliams and Adrian Edmondson will be available at various times throughout 2023.

E. J. Morten (Booksellers) can also be seen away from the shop on Warburton Street in Didsbury, supporting authors and displaying related books at a variety of events at venues in the north west. These venues include Salford’s Lowry Theatre, The Manchester Academy, Hotel Football, Manchester United F. C., The Albert Hall Manchester and The Buxton Opera House.

Please note – all our signed copies are subject to availability and are sold at the publishers’ recommended retail prices.

There are no additional charges for these signed copies.
